The world of exotic birds is fascinating. There are many species of these fun loving and fast talking birds. Parrots make great pets but you should familiarize yourself with the different species first before owning one.

Parrots are a popular pet bird because they are highly intelligent when socialized and undergo training. Quiet popular because they have the ability to imitate various sounds including the human voice, these colorful birds are among the most favorite avian pets because the majority of its species are relatively easy to manage.

Parrots come in a variety of sizes, colors, and species. The characteristics of parrots vary dramatically, with some being quite sizable, while others are small and ordinary looking.

One thing that makes a parrot exciting to look at is their colorful feathers. Most parrots main color is green. Depending on its species, some types of parrots come in multi-color shades that are usually a great combination of bright white, yellow, and green hues.

Parrots are large, colorful birds with big hooked bills and scaly feet designed to climb up and down trees. When it comes to diet, the majority of parrots species out there are vegetarian while others east fruits, chicken meat and other lean meats and seeds of different types.

It has been shown through studies that the best pets for children are birds, from which, the parrots seem to be the most suitable. Aside from being intelligent birds, parrots are also ideal for kids especially for those who are starting to recite their first words because they can teach kids to imitate sounds and the human language as well. Due to their intellect and ease of training, the African Grey parrot are ideal smart parrots for your child.

Among the most favored species of parrots kept as pets are The African Gray, Cockatoos, Amazons and Macaws.

i want to buy a african grey and was wodering some questions that i should ask the breeder. does anyone have any in mind?

Ask whether both parents are healthy, how often the parents are bred (too much negatively affects their health), whether the baby will be hand-reared or whether the breeder lets the parents feed the babies (hand-fed ones are easier to train), how much s/he wants for the baby, what you should feed the baby once you get it, how to take care of it (temperature, habitat, spending time with it, etc).

If you are buying it as an egg be sure you know exactly how to take care of the egg.
