Canvas Pop In The News
Western Painting - Late Modernism
Over and again, a local resident from Bridgewater has put on canvas the spectacular image of Shenandoah Valley. She has been an artist for about 36 years and her reason for carrying easel and oils is not just to paint nature. She paints from hundreds of photographs she has clipped from the daily newspapers over the years. More expert paintings information is located at photo to canvas painting.
She wants to put the colors back to black and white, like in the old days, using her collected clippings. Then she adds that clipping photos of animals and objects also allows her to gather them on a larger scenic painting. She holds up a worn newspaper photograph of two millstones and points to how she had used them in the 15 by 4 foot mural that stretches across one wall of their family room. The grey mill wheels blended into the rustic scene of a millhouse on a riverbank.
Even though she uses cut-outs to detail the wood land animals, farm crops or equipment, and weather board buildings, she also gestures that the large wall mural is a good example of it. In order to do this, she only needs water. But water is easy to paint with, because it dries out fast.
She showed a new photo cut out about a snow scene and mentioned that she will begin painting it soon. Snow is fast and easy to make, too. Her home, however, only has the mural and two smaller paintings on display. But she said that she has already painted a lot of painting and sold them or given them away. Her items are usually sold through a Hagerstown furniture dealer in Maryland. And she also paints when a neighbor or a friend requests it. The artist is so busy with too many orders coming from all directions. During the Christmas season People orders more, to give as gifts.
A nice old lady from the neighborhood gave her painting lessons when she was 13, in their home in Rockingham County, Green mount section. An afternoon lesson with the lady, back then, only cost her 25 cents. Her mother made a small lightweight pallet using a drill and paring knife a long time ago, and she showed it. The old pallet was stained with oil paints, and a note about how it was made has been decoupage on it.
They have placed item from their church, which has been torn down six years ago, in a family room inside their home. You get a clear view of the river thanks to the huge glass wall on one entire face of the room, and as the sun filters through you could just see how amazing it is. She said that the glass wall gives them the impression that the outdoors is inside the house.
When she painted the mural, she had to find something just right to fit the room. Three quarters through completion she had to sand paper the painting because her kids didn't like how the painting fell to the foliage in rusts, gold and reds, as well as the tithe painting which didn't complement the room. In order to direct the attention of her guest to the large mural on the family room, which encompasses all her love for painting, she decided not to add anymore pictures in her home.
